My Philosophy

Education is my life and my calling. The English language ignites my love of reading and writing, and I wish for it to be the same for others. As a mother, teacher, and tutor, I know how important it is to encourage learning and personal growth. This knowledge inspires my life and my career goals, and I am eager to fulfill my legacy as a change agent. 

 

I will continue my work as a college professor, as a writer of short shorts and poems, and as a publisher of research. Camp English is an extension of this passion, and it's a necessary addition to the current educational landscape.

Camp English Student Success Center (CESSC, pronounced “Success”) is a nonprofit, after-school program whose mission is to provide youth between the ages of 11–17 or in grades 7th through 12th grade with experiential learning opportunities that build creativity, critical thinking, and essential life skills for students and equips educators with research-supported best practices that spark growth.

 

Our motto captures our philosophy of learning through experience: “Where campers grow through experience!”

Publications

  • My dissertation, Experiential Learning and the Modern Classroom is published under ProQuest, LLC. This phenomenological study on experiential learning, specifically studying abroad, examined the evolution of education in the United States, including the rise of standardized testing and the increased focus on whole child and democratic teaching and learning. The participants found a positive correlation between their study abroad experience and their readiness for future academic courses and careers. The implications of this study indicate a need to reevaluate teaching and learning to include experiential learning strategies to improve student success and development.
